I Have a Major Problem With The Way We Handle Mental Illness and the Amount of Mayonnaise Jimmy John’s Uses

This country has recently seen many mass shootings. It seems like people bring up mental illness in the wake of these tragedies, yet we never seem to actually do anything about it. I am calling on politicians to change the way we handle mental illness as a nation and, if possible, the amount of mayonnaise that Jimmy John’s uses on its sandwiches.

Offering better care and encouraging people to seek help is a simple measure that could prevent future crimes and violent outbursts. Instead, people typically blame shootings on either too little or too much gun control. But both of these are wrong, much like how Jimmy John’s employees use barely any mayonnaise at allor, sometimes, so much mayonnaise that they soak the bread all the way through. Sometimes they flood the damn sandwich and it’s just inedible.

While we have come a long way, there is so much more we should be doing for our country’s mentally ill. The days of insane asylums like in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest seem to have ended, and that is a huge step in the right direction, but we are far from finished. Similarly, Jimmy John’s is totally right that their subs are “freaky fast,” yet often the obscene amount of mayonnaise they use makes the sandwiches almost unpalatable, and not “freaky good.” Other times, the sandwich is completely dry. Once I got a ‘Big John’ and I actually had to put more mayonnaise on it once I got home. We have much progress to make in those areas.

Simply put, we have neither handled this issue properly nor addressed its source. Imagine a world where mentally ill people can get the help they need, and where asking for extra mayo at Jimmy John’s means something. Simple changes like these can fundamentally improve our society.
