Sources have confirmed that Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk Guðmundsdóttir, known best as just Björk, is still really weird.
The 54-year-old songstress has made a name for herself with her experimental tones, creative lyrics, and being an absolute wackjob. From her scream-singing to behaving like a woodland fairy in interviews, as well as wearing the infamous swan dress to the 2001 Oscar awards, the queen of kooky does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Björk began her career as a member of a rock band called The Sugarcubes, but her zany antics could not be confined to a group.
Einar Örn, Björk’s former bandmate remarked, “She’s always been sort of strange. She would insist that we record with socks on our hands, and she was always late to rehearsal because she would have to crawl from her apartment.” Sources confirm that Björk has maintained this behavior despite a recent arthritis flare up.
Jenn Pelly, a music scholar and contributor to Pitchfork gave her opinion on Björk’s lingering weirdness: “Most artists have had experimental phases where their music and behavior was particularly odd — Kate Bush, Lady Gaga, and David Bowie to name a few — but they all outgrew it. That’s definitely not the case for Björk. I think she’s really just batshit.”
Though the wacky woman does not have any plans to release new music anytime soon, she did recently issue a deluxe re-release of her 2017 record Utopia. The set includes 14 handmade birdcall flutes, which are certain to keep her equally bizarre fanbase entertained.
When reached for comment on her eccentric tendencies, Björk was seen tittering and retreating into her Icelandic cave like a coastal goblin.
